In 1976 brothers John and Randy Grout started ‘The Grout Company’, originally focused on remodeling single-family homes in Portland. The brothers branched out into new construction and development and in 1985, partially due to a hint from John’s wife about how desperate she was for an organized closet, ‘Designed Space Systems’ was born.
Brothers Mike and James Ambrose both worked in the construction industry from an early age. They joined John and Randy as partners in 1997 and ‘Designed Space Systems’ became Portland Closet Company.
